Project Outline

Step 1: Talk with your teacher about the project and how you can participate. Your teacher will help you log in to the wiki and get started.

Step 2: Introduce yourself to other wiki members in the Project Participants area. Use a short video, podcast, or image and text to tell us who you are, where you are, and something that makes you unique. You should not include personal information such as your address or contact details on the wiki.

Step 3: Read about the United Nations Millenium Development Goals. Use the resources in the wiki or find your own resources. What are the goals? When were they written? Who are they for? What issues do they address?

Step 4: Participate in a whole group discussion about the project and the MDGs on the wiki home page.

Step 5: Choose a goal on which you wish to focus. Add your name to the group list for this goal on the Group Assignments page.

Step 6: Edit the wiki page for your goal, by adding information, links, images, or files that will help other to understand the goal, the issues that surround the goal, how the issue touches your life, or the UN's progress in reaching the goal. Answer these questions: what is it ? Why should I care ? What is the international community doing? What can I do?

Step 7: Work with your group to develop good discussion questions surrounding your issue.

Step 8: Host other groups in a discussion surrounding your MDG.

Step 9: Participate in other group's discussions according to the weekly schedule outlined in the Group Assignment wiki page.

Step 10: Enjoy your new friends in the student lounge area - where informal and off-topic discussions are encouraged!

Online discussions are a bit different from face to face discussions. The following tips might be helpful:
  • Think before you write, so that you are sure that your meaning will be clear to others.
  • Keep an open mind.
  • Focus on ideas, and respect the ideas of others.
  • If you disagree with someone, write about the idea, rather than criticizing the person.
  • Use subject headers in your discussion threads so that the discussion is easy to follow.
  • Use emoticons :) to help convey emotion in your messages.
  • Be active in the discussions - read and respond to discussion posts. This will keep the conversation going.
